Privacy Policy
Effective August 16, 2026. Applies to the Linguen app for macOS and to this website.
In one sentence: Linguen collects nothing. There is no user account, no server of ours, no telemetry. Everything the app produces stays on your Mac, and the only things that leave it are the calls you yourself trigger to YouTube and to the AI provider whose key you supplied.
1. Who is responsible
Linguen is developed and distributed by Adriano Plotzki Dutra, an individual developer. Contact for anything related to privacy and data protection: linguen.support@gmail.com.
2. Data we collect
None. The app does not collect, transmit, store or have access to any of your data. Concretely:
- there is no sign-up, login or Linguen account;
- there is no telemetry, analytics, usage tracking, crash reporting or device identifier;
- we operate no servers that receive your content;
- we do not sell, rent or share your data with anyone, because we hold no data to share.
3. Data that stays on your Mac
To do its job, the app stores information locally, in Linguen's data folder inside your macOS user account. This includes:
- your video catalog (titles, descriptions, dates, statistics and the per-language status of each video);
- subtitle files that are generated, imported, corrected and translated;
- images and thumbnails you generate or import;
- the API keys you enter and the authorization to access your YouTube channel;
- the run and cost history that powers the app's own spending reports.
This data is under your control and protected by your operating system. You can erase it at any time by removing the app's data folder. We recommend keeping macOS disk encryption (FileVault) enabled, as you would for any other sensitive data on your computer.
4. Third-party services you trigger
Linguen runs on your own keys and credentials. When you use a feature that depends on an external service, the app communicates directly with that service from your Mac, without passing through us. What gets sent depends on the feature:
- Google / YouTube — when syncing your catalog, uploading subtitles, titles, descriptions or thumbnails, and when reading your channel statistics.
- Google Gemini — when translating subtitles, generating titles and descriptions, or generating and editing images: the corresponding text or image is sent to the model.
- OpenAI and Anthropic — only if you add those keys, for the translation and coherence-analysis features that use them.
How each provider handles the content you send is governed by their own terms and privacy policies, which you agree to directly when you create your key:
Audio transcription is the exception: it runs entirely on your Mac with a local model, and your video audio is not sent anywhere in that process.
5. Use of YouTube API Services
Linguen uses YouTube API Services to read and update the channel data you authorize. By using those features you are also bound by the YouTube Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
Access is granted by you through Google's own authorization screen (OAuth) and is limited to what is needed to manage your videos' subtitles, metadata and thumbnails. The resulting credential is stored only on your Mac and is never transmitted to us.
You can revoke that access at any time, without going through the app, on your Google Account permissions page. Any YouTube data the app has stored locally simply stops being updated from then on, and you can delete it by removing Linguen's data folder.
6. Purchases and subscription
Linguen is free to download. The features that use AI or publish to your channel require a subscription, with the first month as a free trial.
Purchase and renewal are handled entirely by Apple, through the App Store. Payment happens in your Apple account, and we do not receive, see or store any payment data — no card number, no billing address, not even your email.
The app merely asks the operating system whether an active subscription exists, and gets back yes or no. That check is performed by Apple's StoreKit, inside your Mac, and the answer never leaves it. We do not know who subscribed, when, or whether they cancelled.
How your Apple account data is handled is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. To view, manage or cancel the subscription, use your Apple ID settings — cancelling does not go through us, and we are not notified of it.
7. This website
This page is hosted on GitHub Pages and uses no cookies, analytics or tracking of any kind. As with any website, the hosting provider's infrastructure may record accesses (IP address and technical request data) in its own operational logs, which we cannot access and which are covered by the GitHub Privacy Statement.
8. Children
Linguen is a professional video production tool. It is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from minors — or from anyone, since it collects no data at all.
9. Your rights
Data protection laws such as the GDPR and Brazil's LGPD grant you rights of access, correction, deletion and portability over your personal data. Since we hold none of your data, those rights are exercised directly on your own computer: all content lives in files on your machine, readable, editable and deletable by you at any time, without asking anyone's permission. If you still have a privacy-related request, write to linguen.support@gmail.com.
10. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version is published on this same page with a new effective date at the top. Material changes will be described in the app's release notes.
